  • I'm having an issue with my computer! How can I get help? »
  • As member of the Student Affairs division, your direct IT support team is the Student Affairs (SA) Help Desk or the Housing (HSG) Help Desk.

     

    SERVICENOW:

    The best way to reach us is by submitting and Incident Report through ServiceNow.

    To report an incident or issue with your computer via e-mail, please contact sait-oithelp@uci.edu, with a brief title of your issue in the subject line and a short description in the message body.

  • How do I access my Student Affairs account and log into the computer? »
  • All Student Affairs employees have a unique account to access any workstation and shared network drives or file servers.

     

    This account will use your UCInetID and a unique password known only to you.

    Remember: Do not share your password with anyone. Student Affairs IT will never ask you for your password. Please report any suspicious characters that attempt to do so.

     

    If this is the first time using your account, you will need to reset your password from the temporary default. You will need to make sure your new password meets the security requirements listed below:

    NEW PASSWORD SECURITY REQUIREMENTS

    • Make sure your new password has at least 8 characters

    • Include characters from at least 3 of the following 4 classes

    1. Upper-Case Letters A, B, C, ... Z

    2. Lower-Case Letters a, b, c, ... z

    3. Numbers 0, 1, 2, ... 9

    4. Special Characters !,$,#,%).

     

     


     

    You can reset your password using either one of two methods:

    Method 1: Changing the password online

    When resetting your password using the website http://poouli.vcsa.uci.edu/PM:

    1. You will see this screen at the home page:

     

    2. Please use the Change option to reset your password.

     

    3. When you get to the next screen, please fill in the following in their respective fields

    • username: yourUCINetID
    • Old Password: default password given to you
    • New Password: your new password that meets the security requirements
    • Confirm Password: type in your new password again

     

     


     

     

    Method 2: Changing password by logging into a Student Affairs Computer

    Macintosh or Apple Computers

    1. Please go to a computer with the following login screen and type in the default credentials given to you
    2. You will be prompted to reset your password
    3. In the New Password and Verify Password fields, please enter in any password that meets the security requirements mentioned above.
  • How do I access the shared File Server on a Windows Computer? »
  • Many departments in Student Affairs share files over the network using a file server.

    You will need to know the following information in order to move forward with this tutorial:

    1. Server Address
    2. Login credentials
      Username
      password
      Domain Name
      If this is your first time logging into your account in Student Affairs, please refer to your hiring/welcome documentation or contact saithelp@uci.edu for this information
    3. Share name (Not required, but will make the process easier for you)
    Click on the start menu on your computer in Windows. startbutton
    In the start menu that appears, click on Computer

    In the new explorer window that appears, type in \\[server.address.uci.edu]\ in the address bar at the top, where the [server.address.uci.edu] is the used by your department.

    • If you don't know your server address, please contact your department supervisor or the IT help desk at saithelp@uci.edu

    Depending on the account used to log into the computer, a pop-up window may or may not appear asking you to log in with a username and password. If it doesn't, please move onto step 7.
    A pop-up window should appear asking you to log in with a username and password. If the username doesn’t match your ucinetid, click on Use another account loginwindow

    Type in your account credentials similar to the picture below. Remember to check the box next to Remember my credentials if you don’t want to be forced to put in your password every time.

    • username = SA\[ucinetid]
    • password = [your password]

    After you’ve successfully logged in, a window should pop up listing the different shares you have access to.

    Right-click on the share you want to permanently map to bring up the menu.
    Then click on Map Network drive….

    A window should pop-up resembling the picture below. You can choose any Drive letter you want, or stay with the default.
    Make sure you check the box to Reconnect at logon and leave the other box unchecked.
    Click Finish to finish mapping the drive.

    Now the drive should appear in the left sidebar under Computer and under Network Locations when you are in Computer success
  • How do I access the shared File Server on a Macintosh or Apple Computer? »

    Go to Finder. This can be done by clicking on the finder icon

    Click on Go in the top menu bar to expand the dropdown menu

    Click on Connect to Server…

    In the dialog box that opens up, type in the server address

    Click connect

    A box will open up asking for login credentials. Type in computer login and password. This will have your ucinetid as the username. mac_savecreds
    There should be a drive icon on your desktop to the right side with the share name on it drive_icon
    Right-Click on that icon and select Make Alias… alias

    It should create an alias that looks similar to the icon named [SHARENAME] Alias

    In the future, you can double-click on this alias to connect to the File Share faster.

  • How do I install new software on a Mac Computer? »
  • All Macintosh computers supported by Student Affairs IT have a program called the Managed Software Center.

    It can be found in your computer's Applications folder

  • How do I Install new software on a Windows Computer? »
  • At this time, only IT Administrators can install software on Windows computers. Please contact the Student Affairs IT Help Desk or submit a ticket to the Online Help Desk System

  • The software I want isn't listed. How do I get it? »
  • Please make a request to have the software added to our system using this form:

  • What is Office 365? Can I use it? »
  • At this time, Office 365 is a microsoft-hosted program for UCI that provides e-mail, calendar, and cloud-storage services for all UCI staff members.

     

    To learn more about this program and how you can enroll,  please OIT's website at:

    As of this time, Student Affairs has planned to migrating all staff members to Office 365. Many departments on campus are also using this service.

     

    If you'd like to be migrated your current e-mail and exchange service to Office 365, please e-mail Angela Han at angela.han@uci.edu.

    The first thing that you will notice if you’ve been using UCI Exchange and have just migrated to Office 365 is that the login process is different. To view your e-mail and calendar on any web browser, you will use the Outlook Web App (OWA) to log into your new Office 365 account. 

     

    You will login with your UCINETID and previous exchange password.
